This incense burner with a wooden cover, surmounted by a coral finial, takes its form from archaic bronze ritual 'ding' vessels (incense burner) of the Shang (c.1600-1027 BCE) and Zhou (c.1027-256 BCE) periods. It is a fine piece covered in a creamy white glaze. The mid-section of the burner is impressed with stylised animal motifs on a 'leiwen' (spiral) patterned ground.
