This is a poster for a concert where the SSO performed with two local pop artists, Tanya Chua and Mavis Hee. It is part of SSO's efforts to appeal to a wider audience. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is a professional symphony orchestra which was formed in 1979 under the patronage of the then Deputy Prime Minister, Dr. Goh Keng Swee. The SSO made the Victoria Concert Hall its home from 1980 to 2002 before moving to its current performing home at the Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay. Choo Hoey was SSO’s conductor and music director from 1979 to 1996. He was succeeded by China-born conductor, Lan Shui. Since its inception, the SSO has gained international recognition and is known as one of Asia’s premier orchestras.
