Tubeskirt

This tubeskirt with dark blue or black background with dark indigo band for the main motif is atypical among the Savunese weaving. The name of the motif does not refer to an ancestress or to a story but to a ritual. It refers to a ceremony that takes place three days after birth during which the mother wears the cloth. It is the first time that she goes out of the house, and symbolically goes to the river or to the well to take a ceremonial bath with herbs and aromatic plants. It is not known when the motif was created.
