Dish with figure

Tin-glazed earthenware produced in England was also known as 'delftware', as the decoration was painted in the style of imports from Delft, Holland. The decoration on this blue and white delftware dish shows Chinese influence. The artist has attempted to recreate a Chinese figure holding a parasol amidst a garden landscape. However, judging from what has been drawn, they are free interpretations rather than slavish copies of actual Chinese designs.
