Established in 1890, Raleigh is one of the oldest bicycle manufacturers in the world. It was originally based in Nottingham, England. Singapore and Malaysia were two of Raleigh’s largest markets in the East by the 1950s. However due to competition from Japanese bicycle manufacturers, Raleigh eventually lost its stronghold here. Robinson and Co. Ltd. was the main distributor of Raleigh bicycles in Singapore before it was taken over by Raleigh Cycle Sales Sdn. Berhad (Malaysia), a subsidiary of Raleigh Industries Ltd., Nottingham in the 1960s.
