This thermometer set was used to take temperatures during the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) epidemic between March and May 2003. SARS is a viral respiratory disease that is highly contagious. One of the measures used by government agencies to contain the SARS epidemic was regular temperature taking exercises in public areas. Despite such efforts, 283 people were infected and 33 others died during the epidemic.
