Spoon

There are two sizes of porcelain spoons used by the Peranakans – soup spoons and dessert spoons, soup spoons being the larger of the two. There are variations in the design of each type of spoon, with some soup spoons having the shape of a ‘cobra-head’. The spoons are richly decorated in colourful enamels with floral and bird motifs, particularly the phoenix and the peony. Dessert spoons are used with dessert bowls in the serving of Peranakan desserts such as 'chendol', 'tai bak' and 'biji delima'.
