The Singapore People’s Alliance (SPA) was a political party that was formed in 1957. Founded and headed by Singapore’s second Chief Minister, Lim Yew Hock, the Alliance was the result of a merger between the Labour Front (LF) and the Liberal Socialist Party (LSP). The SPA took part in the watershed 1959 Legislative Assembly Election, in which all 51 seats in the legislative body were wholly elected. It fared badly at the polls, losing out to the People’s Action’s Party (PAP) who won by a landslide. The SPA did not win any seats in the 1963 General Election and was dissolved in 1965 after Singapore gained independence.
