Loincloth

This loincloth is made of nine bands of main motif and woven in one piece. The bands of motif, blue and white, are divided by a band of red or dark-blue ikat which has been dyed in indigo first and over-dyed in red after all ikated knots had been opened. The white triangles classify such a weaving as appropriate for a funeral. However, it cannot be used to wrap the corpse of an adult because the weaving has no middle seam, but made of one single weaving. If used at funerals it would be to wrap the body of a young deceased child whose personality is not yet that of a ‘complete’ person.
