This rare oil lamp has an unusual form that comprises a globular bowl with an inverted rim and an openwork tripod pedestal stand. It is covered in a creamy white glaze that is typical of good quality Dehua porcelain of the late Ming dynasty (1368-1644).The form is thought to be peculiar to Dehua and the cluster of three cylindrical wick holders most probably required generous amounts of oil to be used. It is thought lamps such as this were made for local use as the style and form were not to the taste of Europeans.
