The cloth belt was one of the items used by Peranakan babies in their early years. It could have been knitted by the mothers or the other women at home. After bathing, the baby was then oiled with warm Chinese herbs and betel leaves applied to the navel. Then the cloth belt was wound around them to prevent ‘wind’ from entering the baby through the navel.
