This ornate Peranakan wedding cabinet has motifs that include the phoenix, dragon and peony, which are typically favoured by the Peranakans for use during weddings. The eagle finials are indicative of many such cupboards made in the early 20th century, demonstrating the English influence on Peranakan furniture. This type of cupboards were made by Chinese craftsmen in a style known to collectors of Peranakan furniture as 'brown and gold'. They were used for storing clothes in the wedding chamber.
