This small jar has four ring handles around the shoulder that were later wrapped in sheeet silver, and underglaze cobalt blue decoration comprising a band of floral petals and classic scrolls around the shoulder, flowering foliage around the mid-section and lotus petal band around the base. The cover has floral designs in repousse.Large quantities of blue and white ceramics were exported to Southest Asia and beyond around the 15th century. Bans on Chinese exports by the early Ming emperors created a gap in the supply of high quality ceramics, which Vietnamese potters were quick to fill. Wares such as this were highly valued as heirlooms (or pusaka) in Indonesia and were given added value with the addition of locally-made metal appendages.
