Chinese book, ‘A Simplified Dream of the Red Chamber’

This book was published by The Youth Book Company (新加坡青年书局). The author, Ren Xing (任辛), born Goh Tze Kwong (吴之光), was more commonly known by his alternative pseudonym, Fang Xiu (方修). Fang Xiu was active in propaganda work against the aggressors during the Japanese Occupation in Singapore. The pioneer of modern Malayan-Singapore Chinese Literature developed his interest in this field when he was working as an editor of the Chinese language newspaper, Sin Chew Jit Poh. One of his most famous works was a ten-volume anthology on the works of Chinese writers in Singapore and Malaya.
