The Singapore Soka Association (SSA) Headquarters Building situated along Tampines Street 81 was opened in January 1993 by then Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Housed within the building are the administrative offices of the Association, the Soka Women’s Centre in the basement, and the Ikeda Culture Auditorium on the second floor, which is used to host major events such as prayer sessions for world peace, Buddhist lectures, book exhibitions and concerts. The SSA is the local branch of the Soka Gakkai International, an organisation established in 1975 by the Soka Gakkai (meaning ‘value-creating society’) Japanese Buddhist society to coordinate its religious activities abroad.
