Postcard showing His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales during the 1922 visit to Singapore

This postcard shows Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) during his visit to Singapore in 1922. The prince is seen dressed in white, with one legged propped up on the other. This visit to Singapore was part of an eight-month Eastern tour the prince took from 1921 to 1922, during which he also called on India, Malaya, Hong Kong and Japan, and the postcad is part of a set of 38 detailing the visit. It was one of the most important diplomatic voyages that Prince Edward made on behalf of the British monarchy as it enabled a comprehensive survey of the social and political situation in various parts of Asia that had close links with the British Empire. A total of 16 such Empire tours were made by the prince between 1919 and 1935. The prince left for Hong Kong after spending two days in Singapore.
