The Prince of Wales embarked on a total of 16 diplomatic tours to various parts of the Commonwealth from 1919 to 1935. He went on an Eastern tour from 1921 to 1922, making stops in India, Malaya, Singapore and Hong Kong. The diplomatic voyages that Prince Edward undertook enabled a comprehensive survey of the social and political situations in parts of Asia that had close links with the British Crown. He travelled onboard the HMS Renown during several of these tours, including the trip to Singapore in 1922.
