Designed by Denis Santry of Swan and Maclaren, the Cenotaph shown here was completed in 1922 with the inscription "Our Glorious Dead". It was unveiled by the Prince of Wales on 31 March 1922, when he visited Singapore as part of his tour of Malaya, India, Australia and New Zealand. It was constructed as a memorial to honour the soldiers who gave their lives in World War I and in a second dedication, included those who died in World War II.The dome of the Supreme Court could be seen in the background.
