This postcard shows the British Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) during his visit to Singapore in 1922 as part of an eight-month Eastern tour. This postcard is part of a set of 38 detailing his visit to Singapore, Malaya and Hong Kong. The prince is seen dressed in white, accompanied by other British officials. He was given a warm welcome by the locals from the moment the H.M.S. Renown docked at the Johnson’s Pier on 1 April 1922. The Eastern tour of 1921 to 1922 was one of the most important of the 16 diplomatic and political voyages that the Prince made on behalf of the British monarchy. It enabled a comprehensive assessment of the social and political situation of various parts of Asia that had the closest links with the British Empire. The prince spent two days in Singapore, during which he visited various places in the colony and met many local and indigenous people.
