Glutton’s Square was a popular night-time street dining area located at the open-air carpark next to Specialists’ Shopping Centre. Established in 1966, the area was popular with both locals and tourists for the wide variety of local fare sold by push-cart hawkers. Due to poor sanitary conditions, the area was closed down by the government in 1978 and most of the hawkers were relocated either to the Newton Circus Hawker Centre or the nearby Cuppage Food Centre. Glutton’s Square was revived in July 2004 to mark the month-long Singapore Food Festival but stayed opened until February 2005 due to the overwhelming response from customers.
