This postcard shows His Royal Highness Prince Edward of Wales (later King Edward VIII and Duke of Windsor) during his 1922 visit to Singapore. This visit was part of the eight-month tour that the prince took in 1921 to 1922 on behalf of the British monarchy, during which the prince also called on India, Malaya, Hong Kong and Japan. This postcard is part of a set of 38 detailing this visit. The tour was one of the most important diplomatic voyages that the Prince of Wales made as it enabled a comprehensive assessment of the social and political situation in various parts of Asia that had the closest links with the British Empire. A total of 16 such Empire tours were made by the prince between 1919 and 1935. He spent two days in Singapore before leaving for Hong Kong. During this time, he visited various places in the colony and met many local and indigenous people.
