The Rochor Canal stretches from the Serangoon Road area to the vicinity of Victoria Street. The road that runs parallel to the Rochor Canal is called Sungei Road, which literally translates to ‘river road’. It was famous for its street markets, most notably the ‘Thieves Market’. It was a bustling bazaar that earned its name from the vast array of goods that could be procured there, ranging from everyday necessities to stolen or contraband items. The Sungei Road bazaar today is largely patronized by tourists and locals alike looking for interesting knickknacks or curios.
