This calligraphic work by Le Quoc Viet comprises Han Nom (Vietnamese) characters juxtaposed with lines of text in a cursive style script with printed text at the centre. It is mounted on silk in the traditional Chinese scroll-mounted format.Calligraphic works are the most recent in a growing body of work by the artist Le Quoc Viet, one of a few contemporary artists who is seriously engaging with the cultural history of Vietnam. Viet spent 10 years living in a monastery researching the history of Buddhist woodblock printed texts and studying the Han Nom written language. His works are now collected by museums around the world.
