This postcard shows the Central Business District (CBD) skyline along the Collyer Quay and Raffles Quay waterfront. The CBD area on the south bank of the Singapore River underwent major redevelopment from the late 1960s onwards as part of the government’s urban renewal scheme for the old city centre. Prominent landmarks found in the area include (centre, from right to left): the 63-storey Overseas Union Bank (OUB) Centre, the tallest building in Asia and the eleventh highest in the world when it was completed in November 1986; the 66-storey, 280-metre-high Republic Plaza, flagship building of the Hong Leong Group and one of the three tallest buildings in Singapore when it was completed in late 1995 (the other two being the OUB Centre and the UOB Plaza); and the 18-storey Asia Insurance Building with its unique stepped roof, opened in 1955 at the corner of Finlayson Green and Raffles Quay to house the offices of the Asia Insurance Company.
