When Jurong Town Corporation was established on 1 June 1968, its primary role then was to take over the function of developing industrial estates. It successfully transformed mangrove swamplands in Jurong into the modern Jurong Industrial Estate, complete with industrial sites, residential areas and parks within a short span of three years.
