This long and narrow ceremonial banner is woven in supplementary-weft (horizontal) bands in orange, green, yellow, white and purple in a red cotton ground. The banner has fine details of frogs, fish, serpent, butterflies, anthropomorphic figures and other unsual motifs. The fish and frog motifs are uncommon in textiles and are rarely used. Buddhist interpret the lozenge as a diamond symbolizing the opening of 'third eye', knowledge and enlightment. In Laos and Vietnam, such long and narrow (of different lengths) banners are hung outside homes and temples during funerals and other ceremonial occasions.
