Carte de visite by August Sachtler of a European military man

This carte de visite (a small card containing a photographic portrait of a person) belongs to a European military man. Cartes de visite were extremely popular during the Victorian era (1837-1901) as substitutes for calling cards. This carte de visite was produced by August Sachtler, who operated a photo studio on High Street from around 1864 to 1873. Surviving photographic works by Sachtler are rare in comparison to those of the GR Lambert studio, which was active from 1875 to 1885.
