This photograph shows a Hindu funeral procession. Intricate and elaborate carvings can be seen on the grand funeral hearse, which is also decorated with numerous garlands. A large procession of the deceased's family members and relatives follow walk behind the hearse on its way to the crematorium. Most of such processions take a route that pass through places of significance to the deceased. Prayers are said when the procession reaches the entrance of the crematorium. The family then enters into a period of mourning after the cremation ceremony, during which friends are invited to offer condolences. Hindu processions in Singapore have been simplified over the decades but many of the traditional rites are still observed.
