This is a medal that the late Mr Lim Kim San won at the Royal Island Club ‘C’ Division golf tournament in November 1962. The prestigious club merged with Royal Singapore Golf Club the following year to become the Singapore Island Country Club. Mr Lim was an energetic Singaporean statesman and public servant, who cemented his reputation as “Mr. HDB” for his contributions in housing the population of Singapore as the first Chairman of the Housing and Development Board. In recognition of his accomplishment, he became the first person to be awarded the nation's highest honour, the Order of Temasek (Darjah Utama Temasek), in 1962. During his distinguished public service career, Mr Lim held ministerial positions in various ministries from finance, education, defence to environment. He was Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisors and had also chaired various boards such as Port of Singapore Authority, Singapore Press Holdings and Monetary Authority of Singapore.
