The Regional Language Centre (RELC) was a project initiated by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) in 1968. The centre is “dedicated to the development of language teacher education in the region and the promotion of international cooperation among language professionals”. Originally situated at Watten Estate, the centre moved to its present location at Orange Grove Road in 1972. The 18-storey building was officially opened by then Prime Minister Mr. Lee Kuan Yew on 18 September 1972. Besides serving as a venue for courses and seminars, the RELC also runs a hotel on its premises, called the RELC International Hotel.
