Situated in the Marine Parade neighbourhood and along East Coast Road, the Seaview Hotel was opened in 1969. With room rates priced about 20 percent lower than the hotels in town, the hotel was targeted at the “economical” traveller, as well as locals looking for an affordable weekend getaway. A two-storey annex was added to the hotel in 1970. Besides housing a large theatre-restaurant, part of the annex was also leased to supermarket giant, Yaohan, from 1977 to 1983. The property was subsequently sold to Wheelock Properties and a new condominium project, called The Sea View, was launched on the site in 2005.
