This heart shaped pendant is also a locket. It is set with intan or rose cut diamonds and the gold on the front panel of the locket is worked into the shape of an insect. This pendant locket would have likely been strung on a simple gold chain and worn as a necklace.Pendant lockets such as this show European influence as the wearing of lockets was not as common in Chinese tradition.
