The New Harbour, Pulau Brani and transportation of mail by C.J. Kleingrothe

The New Harbour (now known as Keppel Harbour) is a natural deepwater harbour located in the southern part of Singapore. It was named after Admiral Henry Keppel. The Straits Trading Co. built a tin smelting factory on Pulau Brani in 1890. The factory was on the island for more than 70 years before it had to move out to make way for the Brani Naval Base in the late 1960s. Mail was handled by a single post office in early Singapore and was transported by ship.
