The 12-storey King’s Hotel, owned by City Developments, was opened in October 1970. Situated at Havelock Road, the hotel was one of the many properties established around the outlying city area during the hotel construction boom of the late 1960s and 1970s. It was touted as “providing up-to-date facilities associated with top class international hotels at moderate rates”. Apart from offering a view of the Singapore River and the godowns lining the riverbank, it also had a convention room that could be subdivided into three separate function rooms. Following corporate restructuring measures, it was renamed the King’s Clarion Hotel in 1992 and the Copthorne King’s Hotel in 1998.
