In this painting, the colour green is used for the word 'Al-Muyee' (The Giver of Life) while red is used for 'Al-Mumeet (The Life Taker). These two words are divine names of God mentioned in the Qur'an. The colours green and red are complementary colours thus their use represent the same way life and death complement one another and completes the life cycle. The artist, Professor Dr. Amir Hossein Zekrgoo is an internationally renowned scholar of art and has been engaged in teaching art, history of art, philosophy of Eastern and Islamic arts, and comparative studies in religious and sacred arts since 1982.
