Johnston's Pier can be seen on the left, while the Hongkong and Shanghai Bank Building lies behind it in the background. Located on the right is the Exchange Building, with several rickshaws parked alongside the pier. As a cheap mode of transportation, rickshaws quickly became popular after they were introduced in 1880.
