This dish thickly moulded in the form of a leave has naturalistic details such as a stem and veins. It was probably used for serving sweetmeats. The character 'shang' (literally ‘up') is incised along the outer wall perhaps to indicate proper orientation of the dish. Alternatively, it may indicate that this is one of a pair of such dishes.Dehua, located on the southeast coast of Fujian province, is well known for its production of white porcelain, known to Europeans as 'blanc de Chine'. The earliest Dehua porcelain was produced as early as the 14th century but the production and quality of these porcelain peaked around the 17th and 18th centuries.
