This saucer possibly belongs to a group of roundwares that consists of bowls, dishes plates, cups among others which were made for everyday use. They were potted on a wheel and covered with a pure glossy ivory glaze. This form with gently curving walls was shallow and produced in larger sizes. It remains unclear if saucers of this type were made as export ware to Europe or other destinations.Dehua, located on the southeast coast of Fujian province, is well known for its production of white porcelain, known to Europeans as 'blanc de Chine'. The earliest Dehua porcelain was produced as early as the 14th century but the production and quality of these porcelain peaked around the 17th and 18th centuries.
