Ovaltine was the preferred brand of energy drink in the late 1940s and 1950s. Though it was produced as a nourishing drink for children, it was also supplied to the troops during the World Wars. People in Singapore who believed in the restorative powers of Ovaltine would visit new mothers with a tin of Ovaltine and some cream crackers. Ovaltine was also a favourite suppertime drink consumed by the whole family at home and in coffee shops.
