This reproduction features a view of the Singapore River and settlement from Government Hill (present-day Fort Canning). In the foreground is a bridge across the river which is possibly Thomson’s bridge, built in the 1840s as the second bridge across the river. In the background are mountain ranges which, in reality, would not have been in close proximity to the river and harbour. The original sketch was by William Prinsep, who worked in a trading firm in Calcutta and hence might have drawn this from memory.
