This manuscript is an almanac that lists the duration of day and night, and the five prayer times for each day of the month in the solar year. This almanac was probably used in conjunction with instruments such as the quadrant or astrolabe to help determine prayer times. In the past, prayer times were determined by the muwaqqit or timekeeper of the mosque. Having determined that the time of prayer had arrived, the azan or call to prayer would be announced from the minaret (tower attached to the mosque).
