In 1906, Sun established the Singapore branch of the Revolutionary Alliance (Tongmenghui). This framed portrait is accompanied by a signed political testament in which he urged followers to continue the revolution based on his principles and ideological creed. Party material such as this was closely monitored by the Special Branch, especially after the first serious politically-inspired riot in Singapore, the Kreta Ayer Incident of 1927, which erupted on Sun’s death anniversary.
