The French-style Police Courts – built in 1885 – along with the Central Police Station built in the classical style (behind the trees) were both substantial public works reflecting an eclectic mix of architectural styles popular during the late 1880s and presented the outward appearance of the cosmopolitan colonial port-city that Singapore was becoming. Unfortunately, they were demolished in 1975 and 1977 respectively.
