The P&O Bank in Shanghai during the Sino-Japanese War

A building in Shanghai is transformed into a fortress with junk and sand bags blocking all entrances into the building so that bullets fired from the Japanese would not hit and injure or kill the Chinese inside the building. The Japanese invaded Shanghai in 1937 in what came to be known as the Second Sino-Japanese War. They destroyed almost everything they laid their hands on. Shanghai was known as the "Pairs of the East" since it had an abundant supply of raw materials which the Japanese could use for their war industry. The battle for Shanghai was won by the Japanese by the end of 1937.
