This fairly large manuscript painting of the Mahabharata tells the story of the Pandavas, brothers who were exiled for 14 years after losing a game of dice. This painting illustrates some scenes before the game of dice particularly their adventures in the Panchala region, where they went for the svayamvara (a wedding procedure) of Draupadi, daughter of king Drupada of Panchala. Arjuna, the hero of this epic tale, won the contest and the hand of Draupadi in marriage. This work may have been commissioned by a royal patron since the format and the finish of the illustration is of a high quality.
