This ovoid, earthenware pot has a short neck with relief decoration of serpents.Pottery of this type was made by the Aboriginal group called the Paiwan who live on the southern highlands of the Taiwanese mainland. It is thought they are probably related to Austronesian groups in Southeast Asia who migrated out of Southern China and Taiwan about 7,000-10,000 years ago.The Taiwanese Aborigines, of which there are nine main groups, are descendants of the true first Austronesians.
