This long and narrow ceremonial banner is woven in horizontal bands in fuchsia, saffron yellow and crimson on a red cotton ground. The motifs include mythical creatures such as the 'naak' (sacred naga or serpent), 'sang-hong' (half elephant, half bird), anthropomorphic figures, 'hong' (bird) and geometric designs. Throughout northern Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, such long and narrow banners are hung outside temples and homes during funerals and other ceremonial occasions.
