This shallow 'qingbai'-type bowl has a small footring and sloping sides. It is decorated with carved and combed waves in the interior, a typical qingbai design. The name qingbai alludes to the bluish-tinged glaze that covers the white ceramic body of these vessels. Qingbai wares from Jingdezhen were popular export wares. Many wares such as this bowl were copied at the southern kilns in Guangdong and Fujian, hence they were referred to as ‘qingbai type’. The competition between kilns points to high demand for these products in Southeast Asia especially during the southern Song (1127-1279 CE) and Yuan (1279-1368 CE) periods.
