This wooden wall panel features floral decorations and Islamic calligraphy on the top half. Beneath it is an image of a building which probably represents a mosque, and a black circular piece that was probably used to indicate time. These decorations are in gold against a red ground. Although it is not quite clear when Islam first arrived in Southeast Asia, it first made significant impact on some Southeast Asian societies during the 14th-15th centuries. Many of the first Southeast Asian communities which adopted Islam were coastal trading areas, such as Java.
