This ribbed cup, glazed green with fine crackling throughout, has a contrasting brown wash around the foot rim and a greenish yellow glaze on the interior. Glazed monochrome wares such this green cup appear to be an early export type in Vietnamese ceramics. They reflect a desire to emulate Chinese wares (e.g. Han-period, 206 BCE-220 CE ceramics and celadon wares) in an attempt to capture a share of the export market for high-fired glazed ceramics. Among the Vietnamese monochrome early export wares, such copper-green wares made a brief appearance in the 14th century.
